Marin Alsop as a teacher?

I have studied with Marin Alsop three times. I have found her to be an excellent teacher for a number of reasons.

1. She can get immediately to the heart of the matter and find a good solution.
2. She often addresses issues which no other teacher does, such as appearance on the podium, demeanor, how to deal with unruly musicians, how to be a good assistant, etc.
3. She cares about her students.
4. She is a natural leader and controls any room she walks into.

Oh and by the way, she is not solely interested in teaching female conductors as some have claimed. She has created special programs for female conductors like the Taki Concordia Fellowship : takiconcordia.org
